So, the Red Camera Company has just announced that it is releasing a smart phone with a holographic screen that is capable of displaying glasses free 3D, as well as a wealth of other interesting formats and features.

James Cameron, famed writer, director and technology enthusiast, has recently spoken about how he plans to have his upcoming Avatar sequels available in glasses free 3D upon their release in theatres.

A quick google search appears to show that James Cameron is planning on using Red cameras to film his Avatar sequels…

Coincidence? I’m guessing not. It certainly does raise more questions though. For starters, how do you take the technology inside a 5 inch smart phone and blow it up to over 50 feet?

So you want to know what that cool car was in that film that you just watched? Maybe you’re looking to find inspiration for one of your own projects and wouldn’t mind featuring a car from one of your favourite films. But what car is it? What year was it made?

The Internet Movie Cars Database has all of these answers covered.

While conducting some research for an upcoming film project, I recently came across this website, and it is pretty handy, indeed. Even if it’s just for some fun, there’s heaps to find from the user maintained community of film and car enthusiasts. It’s basically IMDB for screen used cars.

So head on over and check it out.

Animation, Filmmaking, My Imaginary Friend

With production really starting to happen on our animated short ‘My Imaginary Friend’, one major consideration has been at what frame rate we will be animating it at.
Working out the balance between the physical workload and a pleasing motion of playback is a delicate choice, but this video I came across on YouTube really explains the subtleties well.

I’ve recently begun listening to podcasts from these animation aficionados.
Each episode is about an hour long and focuses mostly on one particular animated film. Interesting facts and observations are shared by the three hosts, Morgan, Chelsea and Mason.
With about 100 podcasts available, they’re sure to have covered at least a few of your favourite animated films.

Whilst researching for a short film we’re working on, I came across this very interesting website that is a great source of information on, but not limited to, Japanese animation and and the behind-the-scenes art books that often accompany them.
They have a large assortment of reviews and previews of these books that can be very helpful when looking for inspiration for your own project.
